Monday, July 28, 2008, 10:28 PM Cycling trips + grandfather bday (part 1) It has been a eventful three days for me. Had alot to blog abt, guess it will jus split them into two parts. 26 July 08 - Night Cycling @ East Coast Park Had my first overnight cycling in mths. Our original plan was to cycle from east coast park to tanah merah first to watch kenny's SP musical performance, and lastly end at changi V. However, by the time we got our bicycles and cycled to bebok jetty, the performance was alr over. So we were thinking of our next destination, which was either to cycle straight to Changi V or cont our way to tanah merah. We chose the latter as we wanted to explore new cycling routes. Using the east coast park connector, it leaded us to Bedok Guards Camp, Casper's camp. From there, we had thoughts of changing our route to Katong to find some food to eat. But in the end, we didnt as we weren't sure of the route and the traffic there. As we cont our way, casper and kenny had an idea of going to Tampines Mall or White Sands to catch a late night movie. We agreed since it was only abt 10 plus. Therefore, we changed our cycling route to Simei and den to Tampines. Along the way as we were cycling towards Simei, the rear tyre of casper's bike was punctured. We had to find the nearest petrol kiosk to remedy the problem. At first, we tried to use the air pump to pump air in as we tot it was just a normal flat tyre. Upon several tries, the tyre still remained flat. Suspecting tat it was really a puncture, we took out the bicycle tube inside the tyre and inspect it. As wad we suspected, we found a big crack at one end of the tube. Once we saw that, we knew that the tyre is as gd as dead unless we could get a replacement (which is impossible as it was in the middle of the night). We tried to use our last resort which was to seal the crack with tapes, but it failed to work. Feeling disappointed, we had to abandon our trip to Tampines and think of somewhere tat we can rest and wait till dawn so that casper can get a cab back to east coast with his bicycle. We headed to downtown east by rotating casper's bicycle among the guys as it was tiring to ride with a punctured tyre. Had supper at macs before the 5 of us (excluding casper) cycled our way back to east coast at ard 4.30am. It was a smooth and fast trip back, as we used the park connectors all the way from downtown east back to east coast. The park connectors are totally new to us but they are really convenient for cyclists as it is all one way and also helps cyclists avoid the main roads. At least, we did explore something new in the end.
